Medical Seminar in Homs Discusses Anemia as Part of St. Elian Week Activities
As part of the ongoing activities of St. Elian Week in Homs, the
Greek Orthodox Archdiocese, in cooperation with the Directorate of Health,
launched a medical initiative aimed at raising health awareness and providing
free medical services to the public. The first day featured a seminar titled “Anemia… From
Symptoms to Solutions”, with the participation of several
specialized physicians.
Focus on Diagnosis, Treatment, and Community
Awareness
The seminar addressed the clinical, diagnostic, and therapeutic
aspects of anemia, emphasizing the importance of community awareness and
preventive measures. Participating doctors provided detailed explanations of
the causes, symptoms, and management of the condition, contributing to improved
public understanding.
Free Medical Services at St. Elian Monastery
Dr. Deacon Jirjis Semaan, coordinator of the St. Elian initiative,
stated that the goal is to serve patients from all segments of society by
offering free medical services across multiple specialties, in addition to
working on securing essential medications for visitors. These services are
provided at St. Elian Monastery in the Al‑Warsha neighborhood, ensuring
accessibility for residents of both the city and surrounding rural areas.
Collaboration Between Health and Religious
Institutions
Dr. Samia Sarkis, coordinator of the seminar, explained that this
event is part of the broader activities of St. Elian Week. She noted that the
initiative, now in its second year, reflects the spirit of solidarity between
health and religious institutions and reinforces the humanitarian values
associated with St. Elian, particularly his service to the poor and the needy.
